Ground Hogs Day

Today is Ground Hogs day, and it looks like six more weeks of winter. Winter, how does winter play an incredible role in our lives? We all have seasons in our lives and I wonder if some seasons hang on a little longer, like Winter?

The past few days I found out that my father passed away, and then drove from our new home in Ankeny IA to MI. I have spent some time with Virginia, my dad’s wife. She has been wonderful and I hope you will join me in praying for her. Nevertheless I am trying to find my place, my voice, how I should feel. I did not know dad very well as sometimes is the case with divorce. So I am here listening to stories from friends about dad that I have not heard. These are not my stories I have about dad but these are the stories that I can add to my stories to help make this trip complete.

Winter can be cruel; it can bring storms, bad roads, and extreme cold. Yet, underneath all of this winter, the ground is preparing to make its grand opening of Spring. Flowers, grass and all the wonderful feelings that Spring brings, only when it is time. Winter is not just about the cold, and what appears to be departed. It is about what is underneath that is ready to grow. What is in my heart that is ready to grow after this winter season?

Today is Ground Hogs day, and like the movie I have a great opportunity to live today, in the present, not in the past and watch how God brings his Presence in the Winter to bring Spring to my heart. Let’s pray for each other today. God will bring our Spring.

Hebrews 13:5 (The Message)
5-6Don't be obsessed with getting more material things. Be relaxed with what you have. Since God assured us, "I'll never let you down, never walk off and leave you," we can boldly quote,

God is there, ready to help;
I'm fearless no matter what.
Who or what can get to me?

Thoughts I am thinking today, happy ground hogs day.

You will keep in perfect peace all who trust in you, all whose thoughts are fixed on you! Trust in the Lord always, for the Lord God is the eternal Rock.
